The Engineering department of University of Washington has invented a new Wi-Fi system called “Passive Wi-Fi”. The new Wi-Fi system uses 10,000 times less power than conventional Wi-Fi. Plus it is fully compactable with existing smartphones
Passive Wi-Fi already achieves a speed of 11Mbps download speed which is close to the download speed of LTE, so the engineers are still working on the project in other to raise the speed.
“We wanted to see if we could achieve Wi-Fi transmissions using almost no power at all. That’s basically what Passive Wi-Fi delivers. We can get Wi-Fi for 10,000 times less power than the best thing that’s out there.”-Shyam Gollakota, assistant professor of computer science and engineering, University of Washington
i surely don’t know when this technology will become widely available but it sounds great!
